Exercise

Lowri - TM started an exercise routine today.  She got on the treadmill - and IT won!  Holy cow!  Who knew TM could bounce like that?!?!  Apparently, she can't think and walk at the same time.

It has been raining all day today.  It has been raining hard.  TM chose the treadmill instead of walking me.  I am thinking that might not have been a good choice.  I know I would have WELCOMED a walk - even in the rain.

Thor is My HERO!

Lowrit - Thor is my HERO!!!  He has a dead deer in the field AND he gets to eat it!!!  TM thinks it might have been injured by a hunter.  But WOW, score a big point for Thor!

I didn't get to sample it.  TM was walking the fences and made me stay with her.  But, boy, if she took her eyes off me for a second, I was GONE!  I don't know how many times I ran up that hill.  Thor was protective of his prize, but didn't growl or anything.  He just got between me and it.  I am sure it would have been VERY tasty!

Herding and Baby Lambs

Lowri - We went herding today.  It was great!  There was lots of mud everywhere.  I needed a full bath afterwards.

Treasure went first.  She herded my ducks and did some really good work.  TM said she did some intermediate level work.  I didn't have to give her very much direction at all.  I did shout some out from my crate in the car.

Dinah was a baaaaaad dog!  She did fine herding, she just didn't start out well.  TM told her to sit and Dinah said "no".  I could have told her that wouldn't work out well, but she was being bull-headed.  TM won...duh!  Dinah decided that sitting was a great idea.  Once she did, she was able to go herding.  I gave her LOTS of direction.  I could hear TM encouraging her, so I did too.  I don't think she appreciated it.

Then it was my turn.  TM and MC put the ducks away and called in my sheep.  The mamas and their babies all came, except for one.  That one had just had her babies - literally!  She had them about 12:30 this afternoon.  They sure were cute!  TM and MC left her and her babies alone in the field.

TM had me work the rest of the mamas and babies.  She is trying to teach me to rate myself and not push too hard. I drove TM crazy with my bouncing.  It was FUN!  Here are some pictures.
Big Sister is trying to stare me down, while the other big mamas are leaving.

I was holding my Stop for TM.

New Diet and More Lambs.

Lowri - TM has started a new diet.  I am very proud of her.  She has been very good with her eating.  The part I like best is that she measures out stuff and takes the skin off the chicken.  I am right there to remind her to do it and to give her an easy way of disposing of it.  I am very, very happy to help her in any way I can.  YUM!

We have MORE new lambs.  PR told us that we had new lambs on Wednesday morning.  Twins again.  He wasn't sure who had them (he can't tell them apart like TM can) but they were alive and their mother was taking good care of them.  When we got to the farm this afternoon, TM was a little surprised to see it was Little Mama who had the lambs.  Then she saw one of the wild ewes also had lambs.  Apparently, Little Mama had twins last night.  We now have NINE lambs!  Three sets of twins and one set of triplets.  AND, we still have one ewe left to go.   I am very excited because this means I will have LOTS of sheep to herd.  TM said she will try and get pictures tomorrow.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Lowri - Today has been almost a total loss.  TM hasn't played with me and it has been raining - freezing rain - all day.  It is too miserable to play outside.  There is ice everywhere!  TM lets me out pretty regularly.  She has also been very appreciative of my laying on her feet when I am inside.  She says I am very warm.

Poor TM, she has been doing something called "taxes".  I don't know what it is, but it involves a LOT of mumbling.  She has spent most of the day doing them.  I tried to entice her into playing with me (getting me my treats), but she just mumbled some more.

Unfortunately, she saw in her checkbook all the money she spent on me this year.  She mumbled something like "I could have actually HAD some money if it weren't for all I spent on the dogs".  Then she scratched my head - whew!  I have been doing my best to keep her feet warm since then!

Treats

Lowri - For some reason TM is keeping the treats in the bathroom on the counter.  I think it is so they are readily available when she wants to work on me training her.  So far, that is going really well.  Every time TM gets up, I run to the bathroom to point out the treats.  She generally laughs (good, she likes being trained), and gets some out for me.

Okay, this part is embarrassing.  TM has me "flop over" so she can see if I am in heat yet.  EVERY single day, I have to show her my unmentionable.  At least I have taught her to give me a cookie.  I get one for dropping into a down.  I get another one for flopping over.  If I have to be embarrassed, at least I get to eat well in the process!

Doctoring Lambs

Lowri - I didn't think I was going to get to herd at all this weekend.  It was WET.  We had something like seven inches of rain last week followed by four inches of snow on Thursday.  We had so much water, the duck arena was flooded by runoff water.  It was better today, but still had water running all over the field.

TM remembered that she had to tag the latest two lambs and band their tails.  She put on her boots and went out and closed the gate to keep the sheep in the duck arena.  Then I came out and helped her put the sheep in the little pen.  TM was very happy with how I worked.  Once she had the sheep penned, I got put back in the car so I wouldn't get any muddier.  TM was able to catch and doctor the lambs all by herself.  I must have been teaching her well.

Keeping PR Company

Lowri - TM was busy in the kitchen.  Aidan and Daisy were outside playing in the garden area where PR had rototilled a bunch of ....  um... fertilizer from the cow feeder area.  PR was talking to one of his boys on the phone.  Since his lap was empty, I jumped up and curled up on his lap.  He was scratching my ears, head and neck while he talked.  I was being very good.   I gave PR a reason to exercise his fingers.

SNOW!!!

Lowri - We have SNOW!  You might not think that is interesting, but we live in East Tennessee.  We haven't had much snow in the last few years.  We had four inches in just a few hours.  I LOVE playing in it!
My Pointer imitation.  I think I see a bird.

Was that a bunny?

Just wait 'til I hit TM with this cold nose :)

Twist and Shout

Lowri - TM is playing a new game with me.  It is called Twist and Shout.

TM - wah, wah, wa-wah.

Lowri - Oooooh, it is called Twist and Spin.  She holds a cookie in front of my nose and says "Twist".  She moves the cookie (with me following it) in a circle to the left, so I end up doing a complete circle in front of her.  Then I get the cookie.  So you can see there is a LOT of motivation to this game.  Then she says "Spin" and moves the cookie in a circle to the right.  Then I get that cookie.

I am following the cookie, which is held at nose level, in a complete circle.  The first couple of times I did it, I fell onto my butt.  I just sat while TM held my cookie.  Now I am really good at that first circle.  TM is now asking me for a second circle (in the same direction) before I get the cookie.

It is a great game.  LOTS of cookies <G>

Christmas Coat and Lambs

Lowri - TM forgot to post another picture of my FAB Christmas coat that Miss Kathy made.  So here it is.  You can see how reflective it would be in the summer.  It is quite comfortable to wear too.  I like stylin' in it.

Tm got some pictures of the newest lambs.  Their mother is a HUGE ewe!  I had to remind her this weekend that I was in charge and she needed to move along when I told her too.  In the two pictures, she is the ewe laying down.  Snowy, with her two beautiful girls, is the other ewe.

If you notice, Big Sister's big, milk-filled udder is positioned just right.  In the second picture, one of her boys, is taking full advantage of getting a snack while curled up with his mom.  TM was hooting when she saw this.

Power Stock Dog

I worked Dinah's sheep for just a minute before she came in.
Lowri - MC came up today to pick up her sheep.  She brought Dinah for a herding lesson.  After Dinah's wild romps with the sheep after escaping her dog yard (MC was at work), we weren't sure how she would behave.  She did a stellar job!  Who knew?!?!  She rated herself, listened to TM and was quite the little herding dog.  She did a very nice job and showed tons of ability.

I had to set out her sheep from the entire flock.  That is quite a chore when you consider that we had mama's with lambs in the field with the ewes Dinah needed to work.  TM help me get them moving (darn that Snowy!) and I got the young ewes separated.  After Dinah worked the young ewes (she even put TM's two out the gate at the end!), I got to come back out to get Snowy and her lambs into the field.  I learned a whole lot about the pressure points of sheep because Snowy whirled on me every time I pushed her just a bit too hard.

We got MC's sheep in the little corral and TM and MC wormed and gave them shots.  Snowy's lambs jumped out of the corral gate while the ewes were being doctored.  I got to come back out and get the lambs and push them back thru the gate to Snowy.   I got to come back again when TM and MC let one of the lambs escape.  Finally, all the sheep weere loaded in MC's trailer.

I got to come back out AGAIN to bring up the wild, young ewes so they could be doctored.  I had to sort them out from the big mamas.  I was AWESOME!  I was so useful to TM.  I was THE stock dog!  TM said I was the BEST girl EVER!  She even told me that when DC Dora was my age, she ran screaming from the field when the big mamas looked at her.  I am going to be an amazing stock dog when I grow up!

New Game

Lowri - When Miss Kathy was here, she showed TM some new games to play with me.  The best part is that there's food associated with all of them!  Miss Kathy had gone to an obedience seminar where the instructor starts training her baby puppies on Utility exercises.  I don't want to go to her school 'cause she will think I am not too bright for my age.  In truth, TM just never caught on to doing home schooling.

Anyway, for the "Go Out" exercise, you set up a baby gate and put a treat on it where the puppy can see it.  You hold the puppy like six inches from the gate (I was held out at 18 inches, so maybe I am not so dumb after all).  You say "mark" or a work to mean something like "look at it".

I have to interrupt the thought here.  While I firmly believe in encouraging good, treating behavior in TM, I just have to ask.  Seriously?  Do you actually think I am NOT looking at it?  I have seen it, smelled it, measured the nano-seconds it will take me to get it, and I am DROOLING!  Yes, I have MARKED it!

Okay, back to the game.  Once you have the puppy looking at it, you let go and say "GO".  I... er, the puppy dashes over to the treat and grabs it and swallows it whole...so maybe you should use little treats with baby puppies.  No need to use little treats for me, though.  I can handle BIG treats.

I am now doing eight-foot "go-outs".  TM does the happy dance when I go out.  After grabbing and properly disposing of the treat, I belch and check to see if a new treat has magically reappeared.   I get to do this game several times before TM stops.

The best part is that this is only ONE of the games Miss Kathy taught TM.  I think she needs to come visit more often.

Helping TM Again

Lowri - TM feels so much better today - just in time for the weekend!  I am glad that MY activities will not be limited.  I have PLANS!  We have two more baby lambs.  TM hasn't even seen them yet.  I am going to help her tag them this weekend.  I am looking forward to it.

I also get to help catch up Snowy, her two babies, and MC's two other ewes.  MC is taking them home with her on Sunday.  I will miss the babies.  I will NOT miss Snowy!  She is a baaad ewe.

I knew that TM had a little bit more of my food to prepare, so I decided to help her.  She had set a bag of stuff on the ground so she could get into the freezer.  I found a whole box of sandwich bags.  I took them all out of the box so they would be ready for TM.  I got a little enthusiastic in helping and ripped up quite a few of the bags.  I think TM said I shredded them.  I was just making sure they would open.  TM said I was a baddog.  I was just HELPING!

Pretty Panties

Lowri - TM has been needing a second pair of panties for me for when I am in heat.  Since she cancelled all her clients again today, she decided to make me a pair of denim panties.  I am pretty excited about them as they are just right for a stock dog!  I don't need no stinkin' ruffles on MY panties!

Okay, they are done.  They are functional and they fit my image as a stock dog, but....I don't think TM should quit her day job.  At least they fit, which is more than I can say about the panties Dora wore.  She was quite petite.  Mine are denim, lined in a soft red.  I am set.

TM did go ahead and make me food.  She still has a bit more to fix.  She is waiting on meaty bones thawing out.  I am set for another three weeks or so.  YUM!

No Food

Lowri - TM did NOT make me food last night.  She took one sniff when she took the lid off of the ground mixture and quickly put the lid back on and put everything back in the refrigerator.  Fortunately, she still had several days worth of food for me.

We went to bed at 8:00 last night!  Good thing that I know how to cross my legs.  TM didn't get up until 7:30 this morning.  I got to go out right away - whew!  TM is feeling better today.  She hasn't been nauseated at all.  She even had a bowl of oatmeal at noon.  She is going to wait and see how that sits before trying to eat anything more solid.

In the meantime, I am getting lots of sofa time in the sitting room.  We have watched a lot of TV together.  I love snuggling with her.

Stock Dog

Lowri - I meant to point out yesterday that TM had to wait until Monday to doctor the stock because I was gone.  She NEEDED me to help.  I was NECESSARY to her plans.  It is good to be needed.

We came back to town this morning, but might as well have stayed at PR's.  TM is sickly.  She isn't eating because she is afraid of hurling.  She cancelled all of her clients and took a nap.   While she is feeling better, she still is moving slowly.  At least I got fed.

Tonight is one of my favorite evenings.  TM is making my food.  I get to help clean up!  I am very excited about that.  TM mentioned that feeding raw is much easier with only one dog.  I hate to tell her this, but in a couple of months, there will be more of us.

Monday Morning Stock Dog

Lowri - I got to help TM this morning.  We had to get the big mamas up to worm them and give them shots.  I went out and brought them up.  Snowy was being a very baaaad sheep.  She was stomping at me and trying to chase me off.  TM came over and smacked her.  I got brave then and barked at her and told her to MOVE.  She did!  I herded them over to where TM wanted them to be.  I held them there while she closed the gate on them.  I was VERY good.  From foo-foo show dog one day to working stock dog then next.  I am awesome!

Once I got done, TM put me back in the car while she fixed fences.  I would have helped, but the part she was fixing was over my head.  I couldn't have reached it if I had stretched out on my tippee-toes.  So, I settled for supervising.   I think I took a nap too.

Post Dog Shows

Lowri - I had a FAB weekend with MC and Dinah.  We went to the shows in Clemson, SC.  Dinah and I frapped almost the whole time.  MC didn't appreciate that we frapped when she was trying to sleep, but mostly she just laughed at us and got out of the way.

I was very, very good at the shows.  The judges liked me a lot.  I went Best of Breed both days and got to go to the Group place.  Today, I made the cut, but neither judge thought to give me a piece of the group.  I did taste today's judge.  She tasted very good.

Now I am back where I belong.  I am on TM's lap in the recliner.  I am snoozing again as I was so busy this weekend.

TM has been checking me daily to see if I am in heat.  HOW embarrassing!  MC checked while we were gone.  TM says when I come in, I get to have a boyfriend.  That might be interesting.  Weird though, as I don't actually get to meet him.  I don't know about that!

Road Trip

Lowri - TM cured my peds and then packed my lunch, my hot oil, my shampoo and my heater and passed me off to Mama Cheryl.  I am getting my hot oil bath tomorrow.  I sure hope MC knows how to give me my massage!  I am going to be all primped and pretty for the dog shows this weekend.  I am off to Clemson, SC.

I am going to sleep on the bed, get fed, get beautified, sleep on the bed and eat lots of treats.  I am a show dog.  I LOVE my life!  Herding trials one weekend, dog shows the next.  Could life get any better?

Back to Work

Lowri - TM woke us up at the crack of dark this morning.  We had to take Miss Kathy to the airport.  We had to be there at 4:30 - in the MORNING!  Sheesh, I barely had gotten to sleep when TM was waking me up to go potty.

We got Miss Kathy to the airport in plenty of time.  Then TM drove us back to town to start her work week.  I spent most of the day trying to catch up on my zzzz's.

MP sent us my ad for the Handbook.  I love it.  TM says we have to come up with a second page.  She is thinking about using the picture of me in my chair - the one that says High in Trial on the back.  I hope she also mentions that I have been to the Group place and even won pieces of it.

Happy New Year

Lowri - Happy New Year!  I got to stay up and watch the new year come in last night.  We had a lot of excitement at our house.  TM went to bed about 11:00 as she was just too tired to stay up.  Aidan was on the sofa with Miss Kathy, so I jumped into PR's lap and spent the last hour of 2012 there.

At the stroke of midnight, PR grabbed his duck call and blew it.  That drives Aidan CRAZY <G>  That pretty much wrapped up our excitement.  We all went out for a last potty and then off to bed.

This morning TM got up and actually cooked breakfast - twice!  I didn't get any of what she cooked.  It smelled great.  Cheesy eggs, toast and bacon the first time.  Cheesy eggs, toast and ham for Miss Kathy when she got up.   That was a great way to start the new year.  It would have been an even better way if I had gotten some too.

We didn't do very much all day.  We just hung out.  Miss Kathy goes home very early tomorrow so we just enjoyed the day.  We will miss her.  She has been fun.
